APS collaborates with state, county, regional and municipal economic development organizations to promote Arizona as an opportunity for business investment that creates jobs and capital investment expenditures conducive a healthy economy. As Arizona’s largest and longest serving utility, APS serves 1.2 million customers in 11 out of 15 counties across the state with a 50% carbon-free power generation portfolio.
APS economic development-specific program offerings include:
Line Extension Policy
When new electric service is established APS may assist in equipment and construction costs for new or upgraded electric facilities traditionally paid by the developer or end-user. Capital costs paid by APS are dependent on an applicant's location, scope of project, load size and characteristics.
Rate Analysis Transparency
APS will run a rate analysis for potential projects in order to be transparent with power costs and associated fees breaking down each charge by line item so the client knows how their rate is structured.
The APS customer technology group was developed to explore and implement new ways to partner with the business community on meeting and enhancing their need to incorporate renewable energy, microgrid, battery technology, smart meters, etc. into their overall power portfolio.
APS promotes and incentivizes energy efficiency programs and rebates that offer real cost savings to commercial customers.
In conjunction with the Arizona Commerce Authority, APS hosts the Arizona Prospector website that provides up-to-date community and region-specific data on labor force, demographics, wages, consumer spending, top industries, business clusters, transportation, educational attainment and housing. The tool also provides information on office, industrial and retail building and land availability offering potential business prospects a comprehensive look at all communities and regions around the state.
Economic Development Strategic Planning (Focus Future)
APS assists regional economic development organizations and individual communities with an economic development strategic planning process that identifies community regional strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges that need to be enhanced or addressed in order to target business attraction and expansion opportunities. The end product is a five year economic development strategic plan that is used as a roadmap to identify greater job creation and capital investment expenditures.
The entrepreneurial industry is experiencing dramatic growth in Arizona representing opportunities for job advancement and progression of the state’s technology sector. APS partners with incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces and other groups who support strategies, projects and programs that can advance this ecosystem and move the needle for entrepreneurship and ultimately economic development competitiveness within Arizona.
