2018 marks S&A’s 38th anniversary as an Arizona-based engineering firm. Our history begins as many Arizona success stories do: an enterprising young man takes on the challenge of opening a branch office for an out of state firm ( in what was a much smaller Phoenix) in the late 1970’s. Jim Speedie began to build a small, dedicated team specializing in geotechnical engineering, construction inspection and materials testing, laboratory testing, and civil design and surveying.

A fluctuating, and challenging Arizona economy brought about the decision of the parent firm to close its Arizona operations in 1980. Jim, and his wife Henrietta, saw long-term potential and remained committed to the Arizona market. This commitment resulted in the Speedies purchasing the assets of the local operation, and along with 13 loyal employees, formed Speedie & Associates, Inc., as it is still known today.

Speedie & Associates has experienced many significant milestones over the past 38 years. Focused on relationship building and providing excellent customer service, the firm grew through thoughtful expansion and fine-tuning of its services to meet the needs of its Arizona clients. The firm added environmental engineering in 1986 and discontinued its civil/surveying practice in 1992. As Arizona’s population boomed, new offices were established to support this continual expansion - Show Low in 1990, Flagstaff in 1994, and the Tucson office in 2001.

2001 also brought about exciting change. Jim and Henrietta Speedie, after 20 years of ownership, made the decision to sell the firm to the four division managers, each long-time employees instrumental in the firm’s growth - Gregg Creaser, PE; Brett Creaser, PE; Steven Griess, PE; and Donald Cornelison, PE. This leadership continued to navigate the local market and economy fluctuation, and is still dedicated to the original vision and philosophy on which the firm was founded.

Today, S&A is consistently ranked as one of Arizona’s top engineering firms and is dedicated to customer service providing highly talented and committed individuals who will work together with a strong sense of unity and teamwork to achieve and excel beyond the goals of each project. Speedie’s professionals also have strong, long-standing working relationships with local, county, and state agencies that help facilitate projects through the regulatory requirements from the planning stage through final completion.

S&A has established stability and longevity in the Arizona marketplace and has amassed extensive experience throughout the state. S&A’s main office and laboratory is located in Phoenix, Arizona, with branch facilities in Tucson and Flagstaff, Arizona and satellite offices in Show Low and Safford, Arizona.
