Greater Yuma EDC has strategically focused on the attraction of Food Production Companies to utilize our large population of food safety, food processing and food handling trained labor force. With the rich agriculture ecosystem that exists in this region we have been able to capitalize on our labor shed of talent that exists in Yuma County. Imperial County CA, Mexicali Baja MX and San Luis Sonora MX. In fiscal year 2016-17 Almark Foods made the decision to build their western facility in Yuma County. A capital investment of $35 million for a state-of-the-art facility, will see them operational in August 2018. In fiscal year 2017-18 McCormick/Gourmet Garden made the same decision as Almark and will be investing $45 million for their state-of-the-art production facility. Between both companies, job creation in the food industry will grow by over 200. These operations have both benefitted from Yuma’s large Medjool Date growing and processing operations. Supplier networks and transportation networks established due to the dates have saved both Almark and Gourmet Garden costs.
