What I Learned at AAED

Robin Reynolds, Ak-Chin Industrial Park Board Marketing Consultant

When I first joined AAED on behalf of the Ak-Chin Industrial Park Board, I was still learning about all the aspects of economic development. During my career, I have always worked with a wide variety of clients and in various industries, so I am used to constantly learning something new. I found that one of the ways to learn the economic development ropes was to get involved with AAED Committees, so I joined the Tribal and Rural Committees.

During a Rural Committee meeting, I heard Keith Watkins from the Arizona Commerce Authority report about their Certified Sites program. From the knowledge I had gained from educating myself, I knew this could be an important factor in signaling that Ak-Chin's location was immediately ready for development. I brought the information back to my Board and we began the process to complete all the information for the certification process. Now Ak-Chin's industrial park, Santa Cruz Commerce Center, is an Arizona Gold Certified shovel-ready site and it's the only Arizona tribe to have such a designation.  I was able to elevate my client's visibility and marketability through what I learned at AAED.
