Good morning,

In a surprising move late last evening, Governor Ducey and Republican Leadership announced that they have reached an agreement on the budget.    The Senate and House leadership held small group meetings with members to brief them on the deal.  While the details are still emerging, highlights include:

·         $107 million in cuts to the Universities, Ducey had proposed $75 million in his Executive Proposal,

·         $19.6 million in cuts to the community college system, eliminating state funding for community colleges in Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties,

·         Delay payment for Governor Ducey’s proposal to build 3,000 new private prison beds,

·         Eliminate Governor Ducey’s proposed vehicle registration fee increase.

It is unclear how key Republican members feel about this proposal and we can be certain the Democratic caucus is strongly opposed.   Speaker of the House David Gowan (R-Sierra Vista) commented that the work is just beginning.

We will keep you posted as the budget progresses.  As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
