Greetings Arizona Association for Economic Development current and prospective members and partners.

AAED has made significant changes since its founding in 1974.  It has grown to approximately 480 members statewide and reaches nearly all private sector industries as well as a majority of Economic Development practitioners.  One thing that hasn’t changed is the focus to provide at its core the promotion of economic development in Arizona by acting as an advocate for influencing legislation, educating elected officials on the importance of economic development decisions, and the collaboration among numerous industries and the economic development profession.

In addition to educating the elected officials and the communities they serve, AAED launched an initiative a few years ago to be a provider of educational tools and classes, not only for its membership, but nationally as well by partnering with IEDC to bring CEcD classes to Arizona.  Similarly, AAED’s Economic Development Academy was created to provide an avenue for its membership to attain the designation of AZED Pro (Arizona Economic Development Professional) by completing the necessary course requirements in the various modules.  As of this spring the academy graduated its sixth class, thus raising the number of AZED Pro’s to 29.

The success of this organization is clearly the involvement of its volunteer membership to design and provide robust programs, collaboration opportunities, and a passion to advance the importance of economic development in the State of Arizona.  Our committees offer a wide range of activities where all members can find a place to participate.  I encourage you to find a place to plug in if you haven’t already done so, as I think you will find it very rewarding and an opportunity to build meaningful relationships, as well as educate yourself within AAED.

If you are visiting this site and interested in strengthening Arizona’s economic health, then I encourage you to join our dynamic organization and become part of Arizona’s unified voice advocating for responsible economic development.

I look forward to working with all of you over the next year to explore exciting new ways to advance our organization’s reach and significance in the State.

Best Regards,

Curtis Woody, AZED Pro
AAED President, 2017-18
